BEAT STREET
STRANGERS IN A STRANGE WORLD (Theme Song)
JENNY BURTON & PATRICK JUDE
Beat Street is a 1984 American drama dance film featuring New York City hip hop culture of the early 1980s. Set in the South Bronx, the film follows the lives of a pair of brothers and their group of friends, all of whom are devoted to various elements of early hip hop culture, including breakdancing, DJing, and graffiti.
Patrick Jude, a consummate professional and triple threat (actor, singer, dancer), along with myself, were a musical part of this groundbreaking film. Patrick has a wonderful dry wit, so we had a blast touring and performing the theme song from Beat Street, “Strangers In A Strange World”, with Mr. Harry Belafonte and 30 breakdancers, through Germany and Spain on our way to the Cannes film festival in France, where Beat Street was to be previewed.
Beat Street is an acknowledgement and celebration of Hip Hop Music, its creators, and the amazing art and feat of breakdancing!
On some rainy night, grab some popcorn, watch Beat Street and catch Patrick Jude and I singing this romantic theme song, Strangers In a Strange World!
